Challenges

  • Understanding the domain – Study of similar systems from other vendors.
  • Understanding the requirements – Study of product specifications.
  • Understanding the technology options such as such as COM(Component Object Model). This was necessary for handling multiple components at the same time.

Solution

NeST provided:

  • Implementation of client’s functional design
  • Executed 25 man years in less than 3 months
  • Integration Services

Technology Used:

  • Platform C/VC++/Windows XP
  • Device Interface: WOSA/XFS

Layers involved are:

  • Business Application layer
  • This layer development was Windows application (COM) based.

  • Communication Framework
  • Communication package that works between the business layer and the middleware is the Super-OSI/TP.

  • Middleware :
  • The middleware separates the common API layer from device specific details. The device layer may contain simulator applications or actual devices. In the simulator system this layer will implement pseudo libraries/service providers to interface with the device layer.

  • Device Control layer
  • This layer holds device simulator applications using pseudo libraries and service providers.

  • Device Dependent Service layer
  • This layer will contain the simulators for devices like keyboard, pin pad, PBPR/Scanner etc. External terminals are connected through serial interface Servers for Postal business.

  • Device Drivers: Windows 2000

Result

  • Developed a cost-effective high performance system for Post Office Counter.
  • Component development and system integration were done efficiently.
