3D- Power Plant Monitoring Tool
The requirement of the project was to develop a tool for monitoring the movements of objects like manipulators crane in a power plant and alert the operarater of any possible collision with other objects and the plant structure. The project required an editor to create the 3D model of the plant and objects and rendering system to visualize the movements in real time. The same tool was used for training the staff in operations.
Challenges
The key challenges for realizing the tool included
- Creating 3D models form standard CAD files
- Support for editing and modifying the model
- Support for custom objects like crane and manipulators
- Multi section views
- Real time rendering and collision detection for early warning
API used
OpenSceneGraph, OpenCascade, OpenGL.
Customer Benefit
A robust tool could be developed within the timeframe and budget specified. The tool was able to simulate real-world scenerios on a real-time basis and could be customized to reflect the actual operating situations. The development was carried out in such a manner to ensure maintainability and feature additions/enhacements at a later stage.
